Tops Benefits of a Custom Staircase

When redesigning a home, you should remember that a staircase is the one feature that ushers family members and guests to the upper floors. It also provides a safe passage to the upper storey. Therefore, you must choose a staircase design carefully. Notably, custom staircases are a great addition to your home, and while they might take time to implement, they are worth the investment and time. This article highlights the key benefits of installing a custom staircase in your home instead of a standard design.

Provides Creative Solutions — Do you want to install a standard or awkwardly shaped staircase? Do you want to conserve space while at it? These are some of the problems that designers and homeowners encounter during renovations. However, it is difficult to solve certain design challenges with standard staircases. Fortunately, an experienced building designer can create a custom staircase that addresses specific needs and challenges. For instance, a builder can design a staircase that doubles up as drawers if you need more storage space. Similarly, if you want a staircase in a narrow hallway, a designer can conceptualise a narrow spiral staircase to suit the space.

Increases Resale Value — A standard staircase does not cost much to design and install, which is why most are not outstanding. Consequently, a potential property buyer might not give a regular staircase a second look. It means that you must look at other selling points in your home, which could be anything, including lowering the selling price. On the other hand, a custom staircase is a massive selling point and can significantly increase a property's resale value. For instance, floating staircases are elegant and functional; hence, attracting the attention of any property buyer. When you realise that the aesthetics of a custom staircase attracts buyers, you can confidently increase the asking price of your property.

Safety — When installing a staircase in your home, you must prioritise safety. A poorly installed staircase or one that does not meet engineering standards increases the risk of falls and accidents. It is mainly the case for custom staircases with intricate designs, complex configurations and unique materials. Engaging an experienced and professional designer will ensure that a custom staircase is safe for people of different weights. For instance, if you want a bespoke staircase made of glass steps, a contractor will likely recommend glass with safety panels.

Turning Your Home into Your Workplace

When I decided to become a freelance designer, I decided I would work from home. I was sick and tired of being in an office all day and to be honest, some of my workmates were pretty annoying. However, I did not consider that I might have to make some changes to my home in order to make it suitable. On the first day of my new life working from home, I realised I would need much more natural light, so I had new windows installed. I then realised that I would need a larger work table to work on my cut out designs. In the end, I made hundreds of changes and I learnt an awful lot about home improvement.
